Abstract : This work continues a long search on the history of Issoire and the Issoiriens, which will remain the principal subjects of this new book. Demography and society had provided the framework, on the long run (1680-1830), of a previous study. Without forgetting these data, the political history had found a new material with the revolutionary decade (1789-1799), during which the confrontations between Issoiriens had nourished the birth and development of a plural political thought. From one revolution to the others (1830, 1848, 1871), we will find the children and grandchildren of 1789 facing the regime changes of the transitory July monarchy and Second Empire, then the interlude of the 2rd Republic and finally the 3rd Republic definitively anchored in spite of the crises passed through, the remaining divisions and even the drama of 1914. The study of the local and departmental press will revive this local political life and its intensity in spite of the smallness of the city. But it is a city which lives, even if the economy remains limited and demography is stagnant. Middle-classes and popular classes have many times the opportunity of mixing. This book will stick to the festivals, the activity of the Theater and the itinerant theater companies, the plays that where shown, the musical life and concerts of the musical companies, the silent film and the birth of the first sporting companies. In other words, Life!
