The idea of rupture or revolution is scarcely compatible with the medieval way of thinking. Despite its vicissitudes and the numerous changes that affect it, history has a meaning that falls within a divine plan while revealing continuity. The purpose of this study is to analyze through three medieval texts that deal with the history of humanity how this notion of continuity follows a coherent pattern and to examine the role played by the Holy Roman Empire in the realization of this divine plan.
